I feel like I’ve abandoned this blog. Haha. I went back to painting and am totally rusty! Here are two pieces from a series that I’m doing. In this world, you can be any animal you want and do whatever you want and live in a world where perspectives don’t really exist. I’ll definitely get into more detail later… and a better blog will be coming within the year.
More from this series to come… and these will eventually be digitized and potentially silkscreened. So many ideas!
It’s an exciting year. :) Have a great week, everyone!

Today, I went to go visit the gravesite of my grandpa and grandma with M. I’ve been missing my grandparents a lot more lately. When I think about my grandparents, I think about all the little moments we shared. While they may be little, they are so special to me. I miss eating overcooked Sapporo Ichiban with my grandpa (he loved ramen), and I miss eating a whole bucket of dark fried chicken from Chicken Galore with my grandma and my sister (yes, she loved fried chicken as much as me).
Anyways, M and I just sat in the car at the cemetery talking about life and other things. Cemeteries used to be a sad place that I also feared, but on the contrary, it has become a place where I am reminded to be thankful for what I have.
Sometimes, a sketch or a painting doesn’t do justice to capture the beauty of a sunset; that’s when a camera (or a phone) comes in handy. Never overlook the simple joys in life.

Hello, world! It’s been a while, hasn’t it?
My drawing-a-day has fallen through, but I did, surprisingly, gain some insight into the kind of things I want to draw during the several days I did do it.
Day 009 really hit home for me. I wanted to draw more imaginary cityscapes where angles and perspectives weren’t true to life; it’s a place where anything goes. There is a sense of community I wanted to show in this illustration. It’s the kind of world I want to live in, where people know how to have fun and have the freedom to be creative together.
My friend S and I thought it’d be fitting for this to become this year’s t-shirt design for the arts team at the church I attend. We came up with the slogan “Art Together,” which we think sums up our vision for artists everywhere. The image you see here is the final t-shirt design—an extension of the simple cityscape.
I want to continue this series and see where I land in the future. Right now, everything is an exploration to me. All I truly know is that it makes me happy to finally be able to do the work I want to do on the side!

I keep forgetting to share my doodles on Tumblr that I document in Instagram. So, until I update my blog with nice scans, feel free to follow me on Instagram! Username is paintpaperglue. Have a good night!

Day 011
I was asked to illustrate the word creative at work to be used in a video about all the cool creative cats. It was a tiny, tiny project, but it was still fun to make something non-digital for work. If it weren’t for my drawing on Day 009, I definitely would not have landed here. I’ve since updated the “V” in this drawing since it came out completely weird; nonetheless, I have to say I was excited to have done something that felt very me!

Day 008
I took an old digital drawing that I did and messed around with it briefly in Photoshop. I’d love to revisit some of the sketches that come out of this personal project of mine and make them into bigger pieces. Some day!

Day 007
I drew this little creature last night. I just felt like making something cute. Lionel Richie’s song was stuck in my head, too. Then I thought of this video, which made me crack up by myself. Oh, Lionel Richie.

Day 006
This drawing happened on August 8th. It is a quick sketch I did of my younger sis on her computer with a towel on her back.
Also, I finally decided to scan my work. It is unfortunate that my scanner is actually worse than my camera in terms of picking up the watercolor. :’( You will see that I replaced some of the photos from my older posts, but some are still as is. I’m just going to have to DSLR it in broad daylight until I can afford a nice scanner!

Day 005
I just really need to stop being lazy about scanning my work. :( Today, I decided to go back to an unfinished drawing I had. Would love to go back and add to this eventually. My inspiration? Maybe you can say I’m kind of a big Back to the Future fan. ;) I’ll post a better photo of all my work before I… run… outatime…

Day 004
Inspired by watching the Olympics. USA is just so good at swimming. Go, Phelps, Franklin, and Ledecky! So happy to be an American. However, I’m not too happy with the way this piece came out, but that’s okay; there is plenty more time to draw something that I am completely in love with! Also, I’m going to try to scan these drawings in properly over the weekend so it doesn’t come out blurry in some areas. Have a fantastic weekend!

Day 003
I’m tired. Too tired to whip out the watercolors. Too tired to make good decisions (the pink lines are ooglay). May tomorrow be a better day!

Day 002
I was inspired by a video I watched today of artist Evan Rossell. The monster he drew at the end looked so cute! But why the Spock hands, you ask?
My best friend recently told me the story of how her fiance noticed that her hands naturally go into Spock mode when they argue. I thought the story was hilarious because it is so her to do something like that. While the monster looks absolutely nothing like her (she is beautiful, this monster is not), I’d say she also inspired this drawing for tonight!
